The Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus) is a medium sized butterfly, with a wingspan of around 38-48mm. The upperside of the ringlet's wings are chocolate brown with two small eye-spots on each wing and a white-gray fringe. The underside of the wings are a lighter brown with black, yellow ringed eye-spots. The Ringlet will normally rest with its wings up so you can only see the underside of the wings.
Aphantopus hyperantus is common throughout the UK, often being found on the edges of woods and in meadows.
