Caption / Description:

The Pale Prominent moth (Pterostoma palpina) is a medium sized moth, with a wingspan of around 35 - 52mm. It can be found throughout Britain, though is more common in the south. It is quite a distinctive moth, with long palps in the male, tail tufts, and plumose antennae. The wing is a dull straw colour with dark veins and spots.

The flight season is May to June, with a second flight season in the south of July to August.

The caterpillar feeds on poplar and sallow species, and overwinters as a pupa.
