Tachinus rufipes is a species of Rove Beetle, common throughout the UK. It prefers damp (but not wet) habitat, such as compost heaps and rotting wood piles. It feeds on aphids and other small creatures.

The body of Tachinus rufipes has a long fusiform shape, and is about 4.5 - 6.5 mm long. The wing casings are short, typical of Rove beetles. The beetle is black with dark brown coloured legs.
