European Frog Frogspawn

European Frog Frogspawn

Description

Title:
European Frog Frogspawn
Caption / Description:

Frogspawn of the Common Frog (Rana temporaria) in a small pond. Frogs lay their eggs in large quantities as the mortality rate is very high.

Typically the eggs will be laid near the water surface at the edge of a pond. The black colour of the embryo helps the developing tadpole in absorbing sunlight, and speeds its development.
