Ultraviolet photograph of a Orange Welsh Poppy (Meconopsis cambrica var. aurantiaca) flower. The flower appears to have ultraviolet markings at the base of its petals. These areas appear darker under ultraviolet light, as do the anthers and the stigma.
Some insects can see ultraviolet light, and it is believed these markings may act as a 'nectar guide' to insects.
