Ultraviolet photograph of a flowering Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum). Some flowers have hidden markings that are only visible in UV. Bees and some other insects can see ultraviolet light, and these markings may act as 'nectar guides', showing the insect where the nectar is (and so helping the flower get pollinated).
Geranium robertianum has a darker area around the centre of the flower in ultraviolet light, quite different to the flower's markings in visible light.
