Flowers of Oxalis tetraphylla (Four-leaved Pink-sorrel) photographed in ultraviolet. In comparison to the flower's appearance in visible light, the centres of the flowers appear much darker in UV. The veining of the petals is still visible in UV light.
These ultraviolet markings are often referred to as 'Nectar guides'. They are (probably) used by bees and other insects, which can see in ultraviolet, to help find the centre of the flower where the nectar and pollen are located. In turn this helps the flower, which relies on visiting insects for pollination.
