Flowers of Common Ragwort, Jacobaea vulgaris. The plant has large clusters of bright yellow flowers, and flowers over a long period, typically from June to November.
It is often considered a weed, growing along unmaintained roadsides and waste areas. Ragwort will also establish itself in fields, where it can cause issues for farmers, being poisonous to cattle and horses.
Many insects feed on the nectar provided by Ragwort flowers. Additionally, the plant itself is used as a food source for at least 77 insect species, with 30 of these species relying exclusively on Ragwort for their foodsource.
