Infrared photograph of Osteospermum ecklonis flowers in a garden. In infrared the foliage in the background is almost as bright as the flowers themselves.
The flower is also known as Cape marguerite, Van Staden's River daisy, Sundays River daisy, white daisy bush, blue-and-white daisy bush, and is native to South Africa.
Plants were brought back to Europe in the late 19th century for cultivation, and today there are a wide range of cultivars available. The plant is named after C.F. Ecklon, who was one of the early botanical explorers of the East Cape, where the flower grows.
