The Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci) is a small Dermistid beetle, ranging from 1.7 to 3.5 mm in length. The wing casings of A. verbasci are covered with whitish and ochre coloured scales, which get rubbed off as the beetle ages.
The larvae of the Varied Carpet Beetle can be a pest, causing damage to carpets, furniture, clothing, and animal specimens, which they feed on.
Anthrenus verbasci adults feed on pollen, and lay eggs in cracks and crevices, making the eggs difficult to spot.
