UV photo of a flower cluster of a Dianthus barbatus plant, commonly known as Sweet William. The plant is a popular garden cultivar with many varieties.
In ultraviolet the flowers appear quite different than in visible light.
The light edges and darker ring around the middles of the petals is lost and the flowers instead appear very dark. The underside of the petals is not quite so dark, but still darker than they appear in visible light.
